Men’s Hockey Wins In Exhibition

The 2019-2020 season opened for men’s hockey on Sunday with a Huskies win 4-2 over the Alberta Golden Bears.

This is a good step in multiple ways, the freshman looked good in this game, the team put 40 shots on net and a 50% mark on the power play.

The Golden Bears were in a weird sport as they were less then 24 hours removed from beating the defending national champions and on the second of a back to back.

The team chose to sit two of their top 6 forwards in the game but this being an exhibition game, does that even really matter.

The game was all Huskies from the start and that may have faltered for the first part of the second period, that didn’t last.

SCSU jumped out to a lead with a PP goal in the first from their senior captain Jack Ahcan after he walked into the zone and ripped a wrist shot into the top corner.

The Golden Bears matched that in the last minure of the first period and would jump ahead when Tyler Soy netted a flutter puck about four minutes into the second.

Down 2-1 the Huskies looked to their upperclassmen and they answered when junior Easton Brodzinski tied the game up on the PP.

He would get his second with .8 seconds left in the second period as he was able to tip Sam Hentges last second shot into the net.

Freshman Jami Krannila would pick up his first goal after taking a drop pass from freshman Zach Okabe. Krannila got the puck and ripped a fiery wrister past the Alberta Goaltender.

The Huskies travel to Bemidji this weekend and will play at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday. You can catch all the action on 88.1 KVSC with Andrew Erickson and Nick Maxon on the call.
