KVSC’s 50th Birthday Celebration Oral Histories: J.J. Murray

Over the past 50 years, KVSC has been the training ground for broadcast journalists throughout Minnesota and the nation, and we’ve also been the playground for musically entranced community volunteers and students. With a little bit of editing (but not too much) these are their stories . . .

JJ Murray was with KVSC from 1983 through 1988 and held nearly every position at KVSC, including doing sideline reporting while Herb Brooks was coach of the SCSU Hockey team.  The old radio board on display in the front of KVSC’s offices is the board he worked with during his time at the station.  Murray was the very first DJ to play a CD on the air, and he’s got great advice for thriving in an ever changing media environment.

This program is funded in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Grant.
