SCSU’s Nursing Program gets new birthing manikin

By Shay Lelonek / News Director

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — St. Cloud State University has added a new birthing manikin to its nursing simulation lab.

The new manikin, MamaAnne, costs $90k and was purchased using the Leveraged Equipment Funds. It will replace the decades-old manikin that could no longer deliver a baby.

MamaAnne will provide realistic experiences for students in obstetrics (OB).

University Communications says the manikin will be able to simulate complications such as postpartum hemorrhage or shoulder dystocia. It can also scream during contractions and provide realistic fetal heart monitoring, giving students a hands-on, lifelike experience.

MamaAnne will be introduced this spring in the nursing program’s maternal-child course.
