Siergiej Gets A Promotion And Engstrom Joins The Staff For Women’s Hockey

The Huskies women’s hockey team has some coaching changes this week.

On Wednesday, St Cloud State Athletic Director Heather Weems announced the promotion of Jinelle Siergiej to associate Head Coach after being an assistant coach for the past five years.

The team has also hired their assistant coach and it’s going to be Molly Engstrom.

This comes just weeks after Steve Macdonald was named the Head Coach of the team after Eric Rud’s departure.

Siergiej and Engstrom were teammates at the University of Wisconsin for their women’s hockey team from 2004-2007 and both been at the Olympic and World Championship level internationally.

Engstrom has two Olympic silver medals, one 2006 and another from 2010, an honor that she shares with Siergiej. Engstrom also has four IIHF World Championship Golds to her name.

Engstrom has spent the past few years playing and coaching in the Swedish Women’s Professional Hockey League, winning a championship in 2017. Prior to that she was a girls head varsity hockey coach in New Hampshire.

She says she is thrilled to be joining the SCSU staff and team and to be back in the WCHA.

The Huskies will open their season on Sept. 28th, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center against the University of Regina.
