St. Cloud State Dominate Crookston in Opening Round of NSIC Tournament

The St. Cloud State Baseball team opened the 2019 NSIC Baseball tournament on a strong note, winning their first round match-up with Minnesota Crookston in dominating fashion 14-0 Thursday night in St. Cloud.

The #3 tournament seeded Huskies posted a huge first inning scoring five runs on a three-run blast by Matthew Meyer along with a double from Aaron Hammann scoring Caden Harris and Toran Shaidi.

Senior Dominic Austing was stellar on the mound for the Huskies going five scoreless on and tallying four strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

SCSU’s opening round statement tournament win continued to rack up runs in the second inning as Meyer would score Mallek on a sac-fly. Just one inning later, Ethan Ibarra would continue the hot streak of scoring with a two run home run that was followed by a Mallek home-run in the fourth inning pushing the lead to 9-0.

Toran Shahidi continued to keep the home-run party alive with a grand slam in the sixth inning making it 13-0. The power hitter collected his second grand slam of the season along with his sixth home run of the season.

To complete the Huskies scoring out-burst, the Huskies Ethan Ibarra scored Hammann on a sac-fly making the final score 14-0 in the blow-out win over Minnesota-Crookston.

The Huskies out-hit the Golden Eagles 15-4 in the victory.
