St. Cloud State Football Stunned on Homecoming

The St. Cloud State football team suffered their second loss of the 2019 season falling to Northern State 20-17 Saturday night.

SCSU opened the game strong with a 75-yard touchdown drive with a Peyo Parker touchdown catch giving the Huskies a quick 7-0 lead. On the next drive, Dwayne Lawhorn threw a interception that shut down any chances of the Huskies building on that 7 point lead.

The second quarter saw Northern State take advantage of Huskies mistakes, opening the quarter with a 76-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7. SCSU would have a response with a 78-yard scoring drive that was capped off by a John Solberg touchdown catch.

Adam Stage would add on a field goal in the 2nd quarter to push the Huskies lead to 17-7. It would not be too long before Northern State would respond late in the 2nd quarter with a touchdown cutting the lead to 17-14 into halftime for the Huskies.

Half number two featured a dominant Northern State defensively performance that shut down the Huskies for the final two quarters. The Wolves found a touchdown in the third quarter from a 10 play 65-yard touchdown drive giving NSU a 20-17 lead. SCSU would find no response late in the game, and ultimately fall short for a second straight week.

In the game in total the Huskies struggled to run the ball with 115 yards on 30 attempts. Huskies quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn threw for 204 yards on 16-of-33 passing with two touchdowns in the loss. John Solberg led the Huskies in receiving earning 111 yards through the air with a touchdown catch as well.

Junior linebacker Parker Buckley was stellar for the Huskies defense with 13 tackles, while sophomore Devon Krzanowski earned 11 tackles in the loss.

St. Cloud State look to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday October 5th against Concordia-St. Paul.
