St. Cloud State men’s hoops earn Friday night win

01/17/20 – St. Cloud State 100 – Concordia St. Paul 90

St. Cloud State earned their 7th NSIC win of the season in Halenbeck Hall Friday night posting a 100 points in a win over Concordia – St. Paul 100-90.

After a combined 92 points by both teams out of the first half, SCSU held a 51-41 halftime lead into the break. Ilya Tyrtyshink paced SCSU in the opening half with a strong 12 points with three three pointers to add as well.

CSP cut the SCSU lead to as low as 4 points early in the second half then within two points with 9 minutes left in the contest. The Golden Bears would not get any closer to the Huskies on the scoreboard, as St. Cloud State relied on three point shooting to bury the Golden Bears.

Ilya Tyrtyshink notched a career day for SCSU, leading the team with a career best 26 points. Senior Tre Marshall added additional big baskets collecting 25 points and 9 assists in the win. Anthony Roberts was also crucial on the glass for SCSU with a double double in the victory on 20 points and 11 rebounds.

01/18/2020 Minnesota State 95 – St. Cloud State 83

Struggles in games on Saturday continued for the SCSU Men’s Basketball team as the Huskies dropped Saturday’s tilt against rival MSU – Mankato 95 – 83.

In the second loss this season to MSU, the game stayed tight at the halftime break 43-42 with Mankato in front. Anthony Roberts was strong in the first half leading the Huskies with 13 points and four rebounds.

MSU-Mankato came out with a strong start to the 2nd half extending their lead to 12 points with 12 minutes remaining. SCSU found a response to cut the Mavericks lead down to 74-73 with 6 minutes remaining. The effort would fall short, as the SCSU offense went cold in the final moments of the game as MSU-Mankato went on to win 95-83.

Anthony Roberst posted a career high 29 points in the loss, while Tre Marshall stayed consistent with his scoring average adding 24 points.

SCSU moves to a record of 10-7 overall and 7-5 in NSIC play. They will travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota to face Northern State at 7:30 on January 24th.
