St. Cloud State Soccer Collect One Conference Point at Home

In a pair of split matches at Husky Stadium, the St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer team just took away one conference point out of two games over the weekend.

A late goal from junior Nicole Friis help SCSU salvage a point Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium as the Huskies tied with Wayne State College 1-1.

The Wildcats opened the scoring with a goal from Megan Phillips coming in the 35th minute for a 1-0 lead.

St. Cloud State would respond with an equalizer on a header from Nicole Friis set up on a Mia Giorgi free kick. Friis’ goal tied the game at 1 in the 80th minute of the match.

Overtime saw some chances for both sides, but no goals and after 120 minutes the game ended a 1-1 draw. SCSU picked up their 8th conference point of the season and moved their record to 3-2-3 overall, and 2-1-2 in conference play.

The Huskies tallied 14 total shots as a team with six shots going on goal. Wayne State only got six shots against a strong game from the Huskies defense.

The Huskies women’s soccer team saw the weekend finish with a heartbreaking result at Husky Stadium, falling to the Augustana Vikings 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

A slow first half was followed up by a second half in regulation that saw many chances for both sides as the game opened up. Big saves from both from SCSU’s Zoe Welsh and the Vikings Claudia Pueschner led the game into overtime with the score tied at 0-0.

In overtime, a few chances for the Huskies quickly disappeared turning in the beginning of the extra frame were not enough before Augustana’s Grace Behm netted home the winning goal at 97:59 of OT.

The loss for St. Cloud State pushes them back to a record of 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in NSIC play. In the conference, SCSU currently settle 9th in the standings with 8 conference points.

This coming weekend, St. Cloud State will travel to MSU Moorhead and Northern State on Friday and Sunday.
