St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Collect Four NSIC Conference Points

9/20/19 Bemidji State 0 – St. Cloud State 0

The 2018 NSIC Regular Champion Bemidji State were the first test of the 2019 NSIC Women’s Soccer season for the St. Cloud State Huskies. Despite late chances from both sides the game ended a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes of play from Husky Stadium.

BSU found a way to outshoot SCSU 12-11 in the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Welsh earn her second shutout of the season with nine saves. Welsh earned her eighth career shutout in just two seasons with the Huskies program.

Claire Shea balanced the attack with three shots in the game. Brooke Bares, Kristine Knief and Monica Majeski added two shots a piece as well.

Notably freshman Jenna Dominguez had the best chance of the second half with a late shot on goal that clanked off the cross bar. Despite efforts in both overtime frames, neither team could find the back of the net and the Huskies earned a point in NSIC play.

9/22/19 Minnesota Crookston 0 – St. Cloud State 2

St. Cloud State earned their first win in NSIC competition Sunday afternoon at Husky Stadium with a 2-0 win over Minnesota Crookston.

Senior Day for the SCSU Women’s Soccer team honored the eight seniors on the team roster with a pre-game ceremony.

Junior Tatyana Gusakow earned a brace of goals for SCSU in the win. Her first goal came off a rebound from a strong shot by Claire Shea just seconds after the second half began. Gusakow’s second goal also came from a Claire Shea shot deflected off the cross bar and fell right for the junior forward to slot home. SCSU’s second goal of the game came in the 55th minute of the second half and sealed the victory over UMC.

The Huskies were dominate throughout the whole match. SCSU out shot UMC 32-1. Shots on goal for the hosts totaled 16 of the 32 shots in the win. Harper DeMay and Brook Bares individually fired four shots a piece.

With the winning result, the Huskies are now 17-0-1 all time against the Golden Eagles. At the conclusion of the 5 game homestand to start the year, SCSU now hold a 2-1-2 overall record while sitting at 1-0-1 in NSIC play.
