The newest road in St. Cloud is the first of its name.

St. Cloud State University Communications says many believe Mni Sota Makoce Street is the first road in the city with a Native American origin.

According to the American Indian Center at St. Cloud State, the name means "land where the water reflects the skies/clouds." "Mni" means water, "sota" means clear, possibly in a cloudy sense, and "makoce" means place.

Mni Sota Makoce Street leads to the Stearns History Museum and lies on 33rd Avenue South near the Costco development.

The connection to the museum and history as a whole led Mayor Dave Kleis to give the street its name.
