An annual food safety award has been given to two local recipients: an Albany restaurant and a Waite Park school.

Stearns County says the A&W in Albany and Discovery Elementary School received the Food Safety Award at the Stearns County Commissioners Board Meeting on Tuesday morning.

Julie and Jeremy Glenz, who own the A&W Albany location, were in attendance and accepted their award. Head Cook Bonnie Molitor and Second Cook Karen Schreifels represented Discovery Elementary, along with kitchen assistants Melissa Dombrovski, Wanda Ostendorf, and Patti Shoutz.

Since 2003, the Stearns County Environmental Services Department has recognized one restaurant and one school within the county with the Food Safety Award.

The department inspects over 400 food establishments per year.
