MELROSE TWP, Minn. — Two teens, one from Sartell, the other from Burtrum, were injured in an ATV accident on Saturday, September 5.

Just before noon that day, the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a report of an ATV crash with injuries in the 34000 block of Westfield Road, just 3 miles north of Melrose.

The caller reported two people were in an ATV that had rolled, and both were injured.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies learned that a 17-year-old girl from Sartell was driving the ATV through a curve in the road when she lost control and it rolled over into the ditch.

The 17-year-old was partially trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the fire department before being airlifted by Life Link III to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger of the vehicle, a 16-year-old girl from Burtrum was also injured. She was transported by ambulance to the Melrose Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither of the girls were wearing seatbelts or helmets. The crash remains under investigation.
