Archived: UPDATE: A Deadly Car Crash South Of St. Cloud Found To Be Connected To A Stolen Car
Two men are dead after they stole a car from their Lyft driver and got in a high-speed chase with police in St. Cloud.
The St. Cloud Police Department says they received a call of a stolen vehicle just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Lyft driver said he picked up 42-year-old David A. Isaacs of St. Cloud and 46-year-old James M. Parkos of Sauk Rapids and was driving for a few minutes when one of the passengers grabbed the steering wheel and attempted to veer the car off of the road. The driver was able to correct the car and safely pull over.
When the car was stopped, the passenger grabbed the driver by the shirt and threatened to kill him. The driver got out of the car and called the police while being chased by one of the passengers. The other passenger crawled into the driver seat, picked up the first passenger, and took off at high speeds.
Minutes later a Sherburne County Deputy was patrolling County Road 8 when he was passed by the stolen car going 112 mph. As the deputy tried to catch up to the car he saw that the car had crashed near the intersection of County Road 8 and 77th Street.
Parkos was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene and Isaacs was pronounced dead at St. Cloud Hospital.
