Archived: UPDATE: St. Joseph Man Arrested After Infant Found Dead
A St. Joseph man was taken into custody on Tuesday after the death of a seven-month old infant.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the child’s cause of death was from blunt force trauma. Evidence from the investigation led authorities to 29-year-old James Joseph Robert Wood.
Initially, law enforcement was called to a home in Rice last Saturday after a mother called with the belief that her infant child was dead. Paramedics attempted to revive the child but were unsuccessful.
Wood was in a relationship with the child’s mother and had arrived at the home last Friday, planning to stay the weekend. He was arrested in the early morning Saturday on DUI and fourth-degree assault charges and was arrested for the infant’s murder following his DUI arraignment.
He is currently being held in Benton County Jail on third-degree murder charges.
