Archived: UPDATE: Victim Identified, 2nd Degree Murder Charges Filed in St. Cloud Murder Case

The St. Cloud Police and the Stearns County Attorney’s Office have released more information in a murder that happened over the weekend.

Police have identified the victim as 45-year-old Jennifer Lee Moy of Blaine, an acquaintance of the suspect.

On Tuesday, Stearns County charged 38-year-old Daniel Walter Kenning with second-degree murder charges with intent, not premeditated.

St. Cloud police say at around 8 a.m on Saturday, September 29, Kenning went to the station and told officers that he had killed a woman in his house in north St. Cloud.

The county attorney says Kenning had picked up Moy on Friday night and brought her back to his house. They had met at a wedding previously and has been communicating through social media.

Kenning told investigators they went down to his basement in the early morning hours and he tied up the victim’s legs and handcuffed her to a table. He admitted to investigators at some point he strangled her with one hand until she died. Kenning told an investigator that God told him he "needed to kill someone and that he would be able to resurrect them."

A provisional autopsy report found Moy’s cause of death was probable asphyxiation due to probably strangulation

Kenning’s bail has been set at $2 million unconditionally or $1 million with conditions by Judge Mary Mahler.
