Archived: Women’s Hockey Falls at Providence Sunday

The SCSU women’s hockey team dropped the second game of their series with Providence on Sunday by a 4-2 margin. The Huskies earned a tie Saturday.

Providence got the game’s first goal halfway through the first period and held the 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

Callie Dahl notched a goal to tie the game for SCSU at the second period’s midway point. Hannah Brodt was credited with the lone assist on Dahl’s first goal of the young season.

The Friars took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission after scoring a goal with just over two minutes remaining in the second period.

Providence got the eventual game winning goal at the 4:09 mark of the third period, which gave them a 3-1 lead at the time.

The Huskies got a power play goal from Abby Ness with just over six minutes left in the third to cut the Friar lead to 3-2. Ness’ second goal of the year was assisted by Vanessa Spataro and Skye Kelly.

The Friars last goal was scored upon an empty Husky net late in the third period.

SCSU is now 2-5-1 overall and 2-4 in WCHA play. They begin their 2012-13 home season Friday night against Minnesota Duluth.
