Archived: Extreme Cold Tempatures Expected Overnight

Winter has finally arrived in central Minnesota. St. Cloud State Meteorology professor Bob Weisman is expecting temperatures to drop below zero tonight and stay around negative ten degrees from sunrise through late morning tomorrow.

Wind is also expected to gust from 20 to 30 miles per hour tonight and 15 to 25 miles per hour tomorrow morning leading to a wind chill factor of negative 25 to negative 35 degrees. The wind chill will be cold enough to cause frostbite to exposed skin in 10 to 20 minutes.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning to central Minnesota that goes into effect at midnight tonight. Weisman is predicting a warming trend that will begin this weekend.
