HOPKINS, Minn. — The St. Cloud State University community is mourning the loss of a student who was killed in an alleged murder-suicide early Wednesday morning.

SCSU President Gregory Tomso says 41-year-old Kristen Brown began attending St. Cloud State last fall and was preparing to start her master’s degree this coming semester.

According to court documents, Brown’s 41-year-old husband, Nathan Brown, was named a suspect early Thursday morning.

Nathan is accused of fatally stabbing Kristen and their 7-year-old daughter with a screwdriver around 9 a.m. Wednesday at the home daycare in Hopkins they ran. Nathan then fatally shot himself.

Hopkins Police say six other children were found inside the home daycare at the time of the murders, but were not harmed.

Nathan is also accused of fatally stabbing a 78-year-old woman in Burnsville prior to the incident in Hopkins.

Police say Nathan was related to the older woman and are investigating if there is a connection between the two murders.
