Archived: Student Workers Urged To Get Direct Deposit In Light of Government Shutdown

Student workers and their supervisors are being advised to swiftly enroll in student payroll direct deposit as a potential Minnesota government shutdown approaches.  The head of student payroll at St. Cloud State University, Lisa Pesta, sent an email strongly suggesting students register for payroll direct deposit. The deadline to register is by Thursday, June 23 if students want to ensure they will be paid through June 30.

This is just one of many steps being taken at the university to prepare for a possible shutdown.  SCSU has created a main link on their website called Shutdown Updates that has links to official pages from the state of Minnesota and other resources.

On Monday afternoon SCSU President Earl Potter send a campus wide email to employees and student leadership about the decisions and planning for a government shutdown. He expressly thanked everyone for their "continued efforts and commitment to students through these uncertainties."

Some of the concerns facing university leadership ranges from how to help students expecting to graduate this summer to coordinating Advising and Registration Days scheduled for new students and parents in July.  Additionally, many science and computer labs have ongoing experiments underway and research would be adversely affected by the state shutting down.
