Archived: SCSU President “We Have Become Stronger”
The president of St. Cloud State University gathered faculty and staff Wednesday morning to present the “Four Pillars of an SCSU Education” as part of his spring semester convocation address. Dr. Earl Potter focused on Community Engagement, Active Learning, Sustainability and Globalization, citing current students who exemplify the university’s mission.
The campus, which is made up of more than 18,000 students and 1,500 employees, has recently learned of the new re-organizational structure that will significantly change reporting lines, colleges, department leadership and will lead to job cuts. Potter says it will be an exciting and challenging spring semester and he has personally observed how the university is changing, becoming stronger and developing capacity.
The next step beyond academic re-organization is an evaluation of programs and services. January will be filled with open meetings to discuss proposals, President Potter will make his final decision on February 4th. SCSU is working to overcome nearly $14 million budget shortfall by June 30. Job cuts are expected in areas ranging from maintenance and clerical staff to the administration and support faculty.
