Archived: Electrical Problem Caused Fire Station Fire

The Minnesota state fire marshal’s office confirms an electrical problem caused an accidental blaze that damaged a St. Cloud fire station and the firetrucks in it.
The fire caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage to the station and trucks on October 29.  According to a report issued this week, the flames originated at a master disconnect switch mounted to the cab floor alongside the driver’s seat of one of the firetrucks.
The report says the master switch – and a fuse holder connected to the master switch – were both recently replaced. The St. Cloud Times says the report notes that smoke detectors worked properly during the fire.
