Archived: Stearns County Issues Severe Weather Reminder
In response to the onslaught of severe weather so far this summer in central Minnesota, Stearns County is issuing a reminder about the severe warning system. A “watch” is issued when severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. A “warning” is issued when severe weather or a tornado is imminent.
Sirens are intended to alert people who are outside to seek shelter immediately. Sirens sound for three minutes, but once they stop it doesn’t mean the threat is over. Sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of every month. The county says it’s important to pay attention to the local media whenever severe weather is approaching.
