The mother of Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar has died. Klobuchar said in a statement that her mother, Rose Klobuchar, died Monday. She was 84. According to the Democratic senator’s statement, Rose Klobuchar had been in poor health because of complications from heart surgery.

Rose Klobuchar taught kindergarten and second grade in the Minneapolis and Wayzata school districts until retiring at age 70. Senator Klobuchar says her mother was an inspiration to those around her. The Milwaukee native married former Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist Jim Klobuchar in 1954. They had two daughters, Amy and Meagan.
