Archived: SCSU Students Reject Atwood Re-Design

Students at St. Cloud State overwhelmingly oppose a plan that would increase student fees in order to re-design the student union, Atwood Memorial Center. In last week’s spring elections, the referendum question was rejected with a vote of 623 “yes” votes and 1,088 “no” votes. If it would have passed, student fees would have increased anywhere from $2.70 and $10.64. The cost to remodel Atwood was estimated to be near $47 million.

Students also voted for a new student government president for the 2010-2011 school year. Amanda Bardonner and her vice presidential running-mate, Bryan McCallum, will lead the St. Cloud State student body during the next academic year. This was the highest voter turnout SCSU has seen in recent years, with 10.7% of the student population casting a ballot.
