Archived: Central MN Volunteers Send 800,000 Meals to Haiti
More than 800,000 meals are on their way to Haiti thanks to the efforts of hundreds of St. Cloud volunteers. The workers filled Sauk Rapids-Rice High School this weekend, turning the place into an assembly line of boxed meals.
Volunteers worked in 400-person shifts, and included workers from toddlers to the elderly. They spent all of Saturday and Sunday prepping meals at the rate of 55,000 per hour. The efforts were headed by Justin Wampach and others, who formed a group called “For the Love of Haiti.” He says once organizers realized their ambitious goals were possible, there was no stopping them.
