Archived: Husky Football Falls To Winona State
The St. Cloud State football team fell to Winona State Saturday night by a final score of 29-16. The Huskies high-powered offense committed five turnovers in the loss and fell to 2-1 on the season. Winona State improved their NSIC record to 2-0 on the season.
Running back Michael Walker led the Huskies offense through the air with five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Claw-Paw-Key) led the Huskies rushing attack with 13 attempts for 77 yards on the ground. Klaphake also added 205 yards passing in the losing effort.
2011 NSIC pre-season Offensive Player of the Year Rayon Simmons led the charge for Winona State. The Warrior’s star running back gained 159 yards rushing with two touchdowns.
St. Cloud State held a 16-12 lead at the half, but were shut out by the Warriors defense in the second half. The Huskies will head to Bismarck, North Dakota on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the University of Mary before heading home for Celebration Weekend on October 1st.
Elsewhere in the NSIC, Wayne State defeated defending national champion Minnesota Duluth 7-0, Augustana fell to the University of Mary 10-0, dropping the Auggies to 0-3 on the season, MSU-Mankato defeated Minnesota-Crookston 42-0, Bemidji State took down SW Minnesota State 41-10 and Concordia-St. Paul defeated Northern State by a final score of 27-22.
