After notching an early season win, the growing pains continue for the St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team. The Huskies traveled to Bemidji this past weekend and came away winless for the third straight weekend, falling to the Beavers by scores of 8-1 and 5-2.

The Huskies lone goal Friday came in the third period. Trailing 5-0, sophomore Sydney Burghardt scored her first collegiate goal to put SCSU on the scoreboard. However Bemidji State tallied three more times in the final frame in the blowout win. Senior goalie Tayler VanDenakker stopped 27 shots in the loss.

Saturday saw a closer contest and St. Cloud found themselves with an early lead. Sophomore Molli Mott took an Abby Ness pass and sniped a powerplay goal at the 10:59 mark of the first to put SCSU up 1-0. BSU however scored five of the next six goals on freshmen goalie Julie Friend, who made 34 saves in the loss. SCSU’s second goal came in the third period off the stick of Haylea Schmid who tallied her second goal of the year.

With the losses, the Huskies fall to 1-7 and 0-6 in WCHA play. After playing its first eight games away from home, the team finally has home ice advantage this weekend when they open their season at National Hockey Center with a non-conference set versus Robert Morris.
