Kimball Couple’s Garage Sets On Fire, Cause Under Investigation

A Kimball couple had to evacuate their home after their garage set on fire Saturday afternoon.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call from 80-year-old Maureen Imholte of Kimball just before 4 p.m. Imholte reported that the fire had broken out in their garage attached to their east Pearl Lake home and that her husband, 84-year-old Ronald Imholte of Kimball, was trying to put out the fire.

The fire, however, had fully engulfed the garage by the time authorities arrived. The Imholtes were able to make it out of the house safely.

The Kimball, Rockville, and Watkins fire departments all responded to help fight the flames, while the Mayo Ambulance tended to Ronald’s minor burn injuries.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. A neighbor reported hearing a boom shortly before the garage went up in flames. Ronald told authorities that he had been working on his lawnmower when the fire started.
