A Rice man has been arrested by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a number of assault charges following a standoff.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call indicating that a man, 49-year-old Jeffrey Alan Martin of Rice, had threatened to kill a woman at the Rockwood Estates Mobile Home Park. The call to police said that Martin was waving a gun around and had made multiple threats to kill the woman.

Crisis vehicles and SWAT teams surrounded the residence and tried to make contact with Martin to convince him to surrender. During this time, Martin made outgoing phone calls threatening to harm law enforcement.

After about two and a half hours of negotiations, Martin surrendered himself and was taken into to custody and taken to the Benton County Jail.
