Paynesville authorities have identified the woman who died in a mobile home fire and have arrested her father after authorities say he started the fire.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s department and Paynesville police identified the victim as 22-year-old Jamey Newport. Authorities responded to a fire Tuesday night at 420 Minnie Street with reports of a man pouring gasoline around the trailer. At the time of the fire Jamey Newport was inside the bathroom of the trailer.

Life-saving measures were performed before she was transported to the Paynesville Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Her father, 46-year-old John Newport was arrested at the scene and was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for potential injuries and then taken to the Stearns County Jail.

Newport is being held on charges of second-degree murder and awaiting his first court appearance.
