Over 20,000 Gallons of Manure Leaks in Albany
More than 20,000 gallons of manure leaked out of an above ground storage tank in Albany today.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says that 63-year-old Mark Leukam, of Albany, reported that his manure tank was leaking. The leak was stopped temporarily, and a trench was dug to stop and contain the leak, as well as any future leaks, until the tank can be fully repaired.
Deputies went to the scene along with an Environmental Services specialist to examine the leak. The manure is being pumped out of the lowland area that it leaked into.
The tank, that holds up to 400,000 gallons, was holding roughly 350,000 gallons at the time that the leak broke. The tank will need to be fully emptied in order to fully repair the leak. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will continue to monitor the spill and pumping efforts.
