The St. Cloud Apollo graduating class of 1974 will be honoring their former Principal Paul Kinney who passed away over the summer.

The first four full year class to graduate from Apollo, the Class of 1974 will be planting a 15 inch sugar maple tree to memorialize in Kinney’s honor. They are also looking at ways to raise funds for a granite memorial bench as well.

The ceremony will begin at noon this Saturday, September 28^th, at the Apollo High School Plaza near the space shuttle outside of door 2, and current Principal Alicia Fischer will give a speech. The ceremony has become a part of Apollo’s homecoming festivities for the week, with the homecoming football game kicking off at 2 p.m.

Kinney was the first principal at Apollo High School in 1970 and remained in there until his retirement in 1981. He served as the principal at Tech High School before his move to Apollo and continued his involvement in the community long after his retirement before he passed away on June 27^th.
