Archived: Inaugural Spunk Days Lady Slipper Ride

As part of Avon’s Spunktacular Days this weekend, citizens can take in the first Spunk Days Lady Slipper Ride on the Lake Wobegon Trail. The ride this weekend will focus on the Showy Pink and White Lady Slippers that are on the trail.

The focus of the ride is to create awareness that the flowers exist and how delicate they are. Those looking to capture a photo of the flower cannot stand close as this will compact the soil and eventually kill them. It can take 5-15 years for a new plant to produce its first blossom.

The ride is 12 miles round trip from Avon to Albany and back.  Riders can also just go 7 miles from Avon to the flowers and back.  Check-in and registration goes from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Wobegon Park in Avon.  Cost for ages 16+ is $15, ages 7-15 is $5 and ages 6 and under is free.  Water, lemonade, fruit and caramel rolls will be provided in Avon and Albany with t-shirts also being available to purchase.

The ride will be held rain or shine.
