Archived: Isolated case of TB at Apollo High School

A person at Apollo High School has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis disease according to the Execute Director of Student Services and Special Education Party Popp. TB is bacteria that can be spread through the air and you cannot get TB from shaking hands or sharing food. For TB germs to spread an individual must have a close and lengthy exposure to the person with TB in their lungs.

Apollo High School has reviewed the situation with the Benton County Public Health Department to determine which students and staff may have been exposed. No other TB cases have been reported and the situation is not considered to be an immediate risk to the public. The people who have been identified as at risk for an exposure to TB have been contacted. Apollo High School is following the Minnesota Department of Health protocols to deal with the exposure and if you have not been contacted your child is not as risk.

A fact sheet about TB is available online.
