Archived: New Exhibit to Focus on U.S.-Dakota War

Throughout this year, the Minnesota Historical Society will offer many new ways to learn about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, how it shaped the state and the Upper Midwest and how its effects are still felt today.

With these new initiatives, funded in part by Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, the Society wants to encourage discussion about the war, its causes and aftermath. The initiatives include: Minnesota Tragedy: The U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 Exhibit, The U.S. Dakota War of 1862 Website, Oral History Project, Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway Mobile History Tour, and other initiatives.

The event encourages all to take advantage of these new opportunities for an understanding of an important chapter in our state’s history.
