Archived: Anti-Islamic Cartoons Ignite Rally at SCSU
Last month’s posting of anti-Muslim cartoons in St. Cloud sparked a passionate rally Wednesday at St. Cloud State. The rally was in response to sexually-explicit drawings of the Prophet Muhammad that were posted around St. Cloud. The rally was sponsored by SCSU’s Somali Student Association.
Dr. Luke Tripp, professor of Community Studies at St. Cloud State, was at the rally. He shared his thoughts with KVSC.
"(The cartoons) were insulting and humiliating. It was a cultural attack, a political attack, and a racial attack on the Somali community," said Tripp.
Tripp is encouraging the community to attend a meeting next Tuesday, January 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the St. Cloud City Hall. Mayor Dave Kleis, St. Cloud State President Earl H. Potter III and a representative of the city attorney’s office, will all be in attendance at the meeting, where attendees will discuss this incident.
