St. Cloud police were called just before 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning to a reported assault in progress on University Drive South at 8^th Avenue South. A witness reported two men beating another man with a wooden shovel handle.

Once first responders arrived on scene they located the 32-year-old victim and took him to the St. Cloud Hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The police investigation revealed that this incident was most likely a continuation of a reported fight in the 700 block of 14^th Street South 20 minutes prior. Authorities believe that the people involved in the incident were acquaintances and this was not a random attack.
