A motorcyclist died after hitting a car and driveway approach at high speeds in Waite Park Monday afternoon.

Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says officers were sent to 7th Street South and St. Andrews Drive at 6:15 p.m. in connection with an accident. Officers found 23-year-old Jesse Lee Nelson of Becker on the roadway. First aid efforts were not successful and Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bentrud adds witnesses saw the motorcycle travelling eastbound at a high speed on 7th Street South. Nelson hit the corner of a car swerved off the roadway to the north side. He then collided with a driveway approach and lost control of the bike.

Nelson was alone on the bike and didn’t have a helmet on. Bentrud says the high speed is the main factor of the crash and not the other vehicle. The accident is still under investigation.
