ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Regan Bulger scored her first collegiate goal, and Emilia Kyrkko made 25 saves as the St. Cloud State Huskies defeated the Bemidji State Beavers 2-1 on Friday.

Sofianna Sundelin also scored for St. Cloud State (7-2-0), which has won three straight games. Davina Davis recorded the lone goal for the Beavers (1-6-0).

In their first game of the season at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, the Huskies improved to 5-0-0 in conference play, extending their best start in program history.

Davis scored just one second after a Bemidji State power play expired, picking up her own rebound after a sharp-angle shot and wheeling towards the top of the circles to wrist the puck home. It was Davis’ second goal of the season, coming at 10:49 of the first period.

The Huskies needed just 16 seconds to respond. Alice Sauriol fed a pass to the point for Sundelin, who loaded up a slap shot and fired the puck into the top shelf for her sixth goal of the season. Sauriol earned the assist, marking her 25th career point against Bemidji State.

Bulger’s goal at 3:59 of the first period proved to be the game-winner. Payton Holloway backhanded the puck out front, and Bulger’s wrist shot snuck through the five-hole to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

“It felt awesome,” said Bulger. “A little overdue, but faced a lot of adversity to be here so just thankful that I got the opportunity.”

SCSU outshot Bemidji State 17-8 in the first period. The Beavers responded with 18 shots over the final two frames but couldn’t find an answer against Kyrkko.

The teams will close out the series on Saturday with puck drop at 2 p.m. Max Steigauf will have the call on the KVSC Sports Stream.
