The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a man died after his side-by-side ATV was hit by a SUV.

The accident happened west of Spring Hill on County Road 175 just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Authorities say 76-year-old Daniel Al Schwieters of Belgrade was driving south on the road and preparing to turn onto 265th Street when he was hit from behind. He was ejected from the ATV and sustained a severe head injury.

Schweizers was airlifted by Life Link to the St. Cloud Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him was 27-year-old Juan Diego Hernandez Martinez of Melrose. Deputies evaluated him at the scene, but he was released.

 Elrosa Fire and Rescue, Sauk Centre Ambulance, and Belgrade Police Department assisted at the scene.
