Archived: C.R.A.S.H. Seat Belt Saturation Results in 172 Citations Issued
The Central Minnesota Reduction of Accidents for Safe Highways task force conducted a night-time seat belt saturation last week. The area focused upon was Fifth Avenue and First Street in Saint Cloud.
The purpose of the initiative was to increase the use of seat belts through enforcement, and to reduce serious injury and fatality crashes which are a component of the state’s Toward Zero Death initiative. Toward Zero Death is a multi-agency approach to address traffic issues regionally through enforcement, education, engineering and emergency trauma care.
129 vehicles were stopped during the enforcement effort. 172 citations were issued, including 149 seat belt violations. Six people were arrested for various offenses.
