It only happens every two years, the Minnesota National Guard training site north of Little Falls is hosting their Open House and Community Appreciation Day on Sunday, September 15.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Shane Haugen, Director of the Camp Ripley Visitors Bureau says this is one of our most significant events welcoming the communities inside the gates for a look at what Camp Ripley and the Minnesota National Guard are all about.

Camp Ripley hosts an open house and community appreciation event that showcases the equipment used by the National Guard and the inter-agency partners that use the 53,000 acre state facility. Each event also has its own unique theme that recognizes the accomplishments made by the men and women, both past and present, which make up our military.

Fixed wing and rotary aircraft of the Minnesota National Guard, civilian emergency response vehicles, law enforcement and state agencies exhibits and Military vehicles will be displayed throughout the open house grounds beginning at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A ceremony recognizing the legacy and contributions of the U.S. Air Force will take place starting at 1 p.m. near the grandstand. The ceremony will also recognized the lineage of the Air National Guard in Minnesota.

A special dedication of the final mural painted by Little Falls Artist Charles Kapsner will highlight the service of the U.S. Air Force. This mural completes the series of all five branches of the U.S. Military which hang in the committal hall at the Minnesota State Veterans cemetery across the river from Camp Ripley.

A vintage car show will also be available for public viewing as well as Humvee rides and a large variety of informational booths, food vendors and activities for families. 

The public is welcome to this event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You should bring a valid driver’s license for access through the gate. Parking near the activities will be directed by the Military Police and handicap parking is available.
