Archived: Chilean Earthquake Hits Close to Home

Many in the St. Cloud State community are personally affected by the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile Saturday. The epicenter of the quake was just 70 miles from Concepion, where staff and students of St. Cloud State have participated in study abroad programs with partner university, Universidad de Concepcion.

At this time, there are no St. Cloud State students studying in Chile. However, nine Chilean students and teachers are currently in St. Cloud for study and student teaching. St. Cloud State President Earl Potter says all of the students on campus have successfully made contact with their families, and none of their family members are hurt.
