Drivers and passengers are being urged this Memorial Day weekend to buckle their seatbelts every time they get in a vehicle.
Nearly 2,600 Midwest law enforcement agencies will be joining police departments throughout the nation in an effort to promote nighttime safety belt enforcement, a time when fatalities of unbuckled drivers spike.
In 2010, 61 percent of more than 10,000 drivers and passengers who were killed in overnight crashes were not wearing their seatbelts, compared to 42 percent during daytime hours.
