Archived: Computer Program Eases Communication Barrier

For those with limited English-speaking skills, a visit to the doctor just a little easier. CentraCare Clinic in Long Prairie and Melrose is launching a new software service designed to provide linguistically and culturally competent care to patients with limited English proficiency.

The software program, called ProLingua, acts as a translator, and allows staff to speak directly to patients in their primary language. The program currently supports Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Russian and Korean. Somali, Arabic, and Haitian-Creole are in development.
