Archived: CSB Bottled Water Ban Prompts Protest
Members of Minnesota College Republicans are protesting a ban on bottled water at the College of St. Benedict’s. This fall the college in St. Joseph became the first school in the state to ban the sale of bottled water in campus vending machines, cafeterias and sporting events.
The school instead installed 31 hydration stations throughout campus for students to refill reusable bottles. The Star Tribune reports that protesters say they aren’t against sustainability, but are defending the free-market system. The group’s members passed out water bottles on campus Tuesday.
St. Cloud State University has similar water re-filling stations, that are similar to water fountains, but the school does not have a policy banning sales of bottled water.
