Archived: Delta Pulls Airport Service

Delta Airlines announced Thursday that it is ending its flight service at the St. Cloud Regional Airport. There are currently four flights a day with Mesaba Airlines, which is part of Delta, between St. Cloud and Minneapolis. The airline is citing weak demand for the service as the reason for discontinuing it.
Northwest Airlines had provided service to Central Minnesota since 1993. State Senator Tarryl Clark issued a statement saying “it’s truly unfortunate that Delta Airlines could not figure out how to continue this vital service to Central Minnesota." Clark is urging Delta to reconsider this decision. She’s pledged to work with area business groups and other lawmakers to try to provide new service to St. Cloud.
Delta is discontinuing service as of December 31—ticket holders for flights beyond that date will be issued reimbursements.  There are currently 12 full-time employees working at the airport and Delta has offered to transfer their jobs.
