Archived: DNR Holds Meeting on Muskie Stocking
The Department of Natural Resources wants to hear from the public on its plan to stock muskies in five Minnesota lakes or waterways. Some lakeshore residents and resort owners oppose the DNR’s plan and say they’re worried about the impact on other fish species and the additional boat traffic on the affected lakes. The DNR says muskies typically prey on whitefish, tullibee, suckers, redhorse and yellow perch.
The DNR wants to stock Roosevelt Lake in Crow Wing and Cass counties, Upper South Long and Lower South Long in Crow Wing County, Tetonka in Le Sueur County and the Sauk River chain in the fall of 2011. The DNR will hold public meetings around the state Thursday, including one at Cold Spring City Hall.
