A Lexington man is in jail after allegedly strangling his girlfriend and assaulting a police officer.

St. Cloud Police were called to the 300 block of Laudenbach Court at around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Police say 25-year-old James Zimmerman of Lexington flagged down a police officer and told them he had just strangled his girlfriend on the bed. The 28-year-old victim of St. Cloud was contacted and offered medical assistance, but refused.

Zimmerman is currently in the Stearns County Jail on charges of felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.
