Archived: Five Dams in Norther Minnesota to be Inspected
Five dams in northern Minnesota are to be inspected by the Corps of Engineers from July 20th through the 28th. Dams to be inspected are near the towns of Federal Dam, Red Lake, Grand Rapids, Deer River and McGregor. The routine inspections are conducted once every five years to check on the structural integrity of dams. A visual inspection on the downstream side of the dams will be monitored as they adjust release of flow for environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, wetland regulations and disaster response. The dam inspections contribute around $175 million to a five-state district economy as 700 employees work at more than 40 sites.
